| Disability Unit(Visually - Disabled)
The Disability Unit was established in the College in 2006-2007 with the U.G.C. Grant of Rs 4,46,000 during the X Plan under HEPSN (Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs) Programme for the visually impaired students. This Grant was received in response to a proposal prepared by the Coordinator, Dr Nalini Govind and, forwarded by the Principal of the college, Dr Karuna Kaushik. We are grateful to U.G.C. for this Grant which helped the college to make a beginning in this direction.
The Unit was set up with 4 Computer systems fully equipped with required software (JAWS, Speech software) Kurzweil1000 (OCR Reader) and SAFA Screen Reader and other Accessories such as Scanner, Head Phone etc.The visually Disabled students showed remarkable keenness to develop their computer skills.The college achieved a landmark when Five students opted for Computer Applications paper at the B.A. |

programme level and cleared both theory and practical examination in 2007-2008 (Part-III) Examination held by Delhi University. In the Year 2008-2009, another Visually Disabled student has appeared in the same examination. Result is awaited. A State Level Awareness Seminar was organized in 2006-2007.The students who interacted and participated very enthusiastically .This Seminar was also U.G.C. funds. (covered in HEPSN Grant during the X Plan).
During the summer break of 2008-2009, some students in this category volunteered to attend special classes in SAFA. They learnt & practiced typing in Hindi. As mark of appreciation, those appearing in a small test in typing will be awarded a Certificate by the college.
During the XI Plan, the College has received yet another Grant ( seed money) of Rs 5,00,000 from the U.G.C. for starting career oriented “Computer Skills Based Modules certificate Programme” from the Academic Year 2008-2009. This Grant was received in response to a proposal prepared by the coordinator ,Dr Nalini Govind and forwarded by the Principal of the college Dr Karuna Kaushik.
This Programme will take off this year. With a view to making this certificate course substance oriented , the students will be taught the syllabus prescribed for the CCC examination conducted by the Department of Electronics, Govt. of India. At the end of 10 months, they will appear in the CCC exams conducted by the DOE through NAB (National Association for the Blind). We thank Dr Dipendra Manocha, Director IT & Services, National Association for the Blind for his advice and direction in the matter. the college has requested NAB for the relevant readings in Braille open and audio material from NAB, Delhi.
A part of The Seed Money has been used for total renovation of the room’s interior and exterior. The room 51-52 has been provided new furniture fixtures lending more space and brightness to the room. New flooring & New windows have been fitted and an AC provided. The area behind the unit will be developed into a small green patch with fragrant plants.
This year, the college plans to organize singing , dancing, debating/ Quiz and typing competition for this category in which students of other colleges will be invited.
The certificate course ( 10 months) will be free this year. The timings will be adjusted for them on the basis of their respective time tables. At the moment class for each common group (part I , ii, or iii ) will be held thrice a week. This course will help the visually impaired students to learn and apply computer skills alongside their B.A. degree within the college. This will save time and energy. |
